A standard five-decade Catholic rosary has 59 beads, a crucifix, an introductory section, a centerpiece and five decades. Each part helps guide the sequence of prayers while the person praying meditates on the mysteries of Christ.
The Clear Answer
The 59 beads consist of 53 Hail Mary beads and 6 Our Father beads. Four beads are below the centerpiece in the introductory section, and 55 beads form the five decades around the loop. The Glory Be is normally prayed after each decade but does not require its own separate bead.
1. The Crucifix
The Rosary normally begins at the crucifix. Catholics make the Sign of the Cross and pray the Apostles' Creed there.
The crucifix places the Passion of Christ at the beginning of the devotion and keeps the Rosary centered on Jesus.

2. The First Our Father Bead
Moving upward from the crucifix, the first separate bead is used for the Our Father. Before it, the Apostles' Creed has already been prayed on the crucifix.
3. The Three Introductory Hail Mary Beads
The next three beads are used for three Hail Marys. Traditionally, these are offered for an increase in faith, hope and charity.
After these three Hail Marys, the Glory Be is prayed. There is usually no additional physical bead specifically for the Glory Be.
4. The Centerpiece
The centerpiece joins the introductory strand to the circular portion of the rosary. It may depict Mary, Jesus, a saint or another Catholic image.
The centerpiece has a structural function first. Its image can also reflect a particular devotion, but it does not change the basic Rosary prayer.
5. The Five Decades
The main loop contains five groups of ten Hail Mary beads. Each group of ten is called a decade.
Before each decade, an Our Father is prayed on a separate bead. After the ten Hail Marys, the Glory Be is prayed, and many Catholics also add the Fatima Prayer.
